How to Register a Domain Name - A Simple Guide

By John Motson

In order to register a domain name, you need an account with an ICANN (Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers) accredited domain name registrar. Getting an account with a domain name registrar is easy. The sign up process takes a few seconds. You are usually required to provide some personal information - your name, address, telephone number, email address etc.

Make sure you provide correct personal information when creating an account. Registrars are entitled to lock or take away a user's domain if the account information is incorrect. Registrars guarantee to keep your information safe, so you are not at any risk.

Once you have an account with a domain name registrar, you can proceed to register domain names.

Registration cost varies by registrar. Generally, you can expect to pay around $10 per year for a .com domain.

Registration duration can range from 1 to 10 years. Some registrars might offer a discount for multi-year registrations, however no registrar has the authority to provide a registration period longer then 10 years.

Registrars usually provide a search interface to help you find and register domains. Using this interface you can search for and check the availability of your desired domain name.

Once you find a domain, registering that domain is only a few easy steps away. Most registrars support PayPal and Credit Card payments.

By the way, before purchasing an online product, I make sure I check the vendor's reputation. In case of domain registration, an easy - yet simple - way to do this is to Google "insertvendornamehere sucks" Make sure you don't forget the quotation marks. A little bit of reading can save you a lot of hassle further down the road!

How to Change Domain Nameservers

By John Motson

There comes a time when you decide to either start a website or transfer a website from one host to another. On both occasions you need new hosting and you need to transfer your files to the new host. You also need to tell your domain name where to point to - you need to change your Domain Name Servers or DNS.

The Domain name system nameservers or DNS information is specified by your hosting provider. You can find it either in your account control panel or your webhosts's faq page. If you are unable to find DNS information anywhere, contact your host.

By the way, if you have just bought your domain name, by default, your domain's DNS point to your registrar's parked page. If you are not using a domain, and you decide to not change the default DNS, your registrar is actually earning money from your domain's visitors' clicks.

The domain name server or DNS acts as the background of a domain name, helping domains resolve to IP addresses.

The following steps generally outline the process of changing your domain's DNS:

1. Log into your registrar account

2. Access your domain's administration interface.

3. Access the Change Name Server feature.

4. Enter new DNS information and save.

It is also important to note that some registrars might not provide an obvious way to enter both DNS name and DNS IP address for your domains. Check your registrar FAQ on how to use advanced DNS changing features, or contact your registrar directly.

Key Factors in Choosing a Domain Name

By Tom G George

Choosing a domain name is one of the most important steps you take in developing the business strategy for your online business. Not only does your domain name brand your business, but it is also very important for search engine optimization. With this in mind, there are several factors to consider when you choose your website's domain name:

KEEP IT SIMPLE and SHORT
Instead of creating a long domain name, you want to keep it simple. Visitors hate typing in long words, letters, or characters to access a web page. You may use short names for your website, which will give you the best result. For example, dna.com and aol.com are good names because they are simple.

ENSURE REVELANCY When you are researching available domain names, it is important to consider the relevancy of the name to the purpose of your website. In other words, you want to use domain names that link visitors to a site that they are seeking to find. Relevancy is a critical factor to keep in mind when you are considering domain names. For instance, if you have a craft website, you may use the domain name: crafts.com or craftguild.com. The links are short and to the point, and users seeking craft sites will find your webpage and remember it with ease.

EVALUATE EXTENSIONS The entire length of the domain name, including the extension, also aids in the branding of your website. The extension is used to identify what type of webpage you are promoting, and therefore, it is important to keep it in mind. You have several choices of extensions, including .com, .org, .net. .info, and several other options. The standard extension for a domain name is .com for businesses or general websites. If the website has a non-profit purpose, then you would need to consider an extension that fits this category. The common extension used for non-profit organizations is .org. For example, if your business were to raise funds to support our military troops, then you would consider the extension and address: militaryfundraiser.org. This is still relatively short, and it reaches out to the readers, letting them know what you are promoting on your webpage. One note to keep in mind regarding extensions is that for both users and search engine algorithms, .com and .org are the most common domain extensions.

KEYWORDS IN THE DOMAIN Another equally important aspect is developing a relationship with your keyword(s) in the domain. This will greatly assist with the search engine rankings and indexing of your website, thus giving you more natural traffic. If you own a pool cleaning service, for example, then you would want to try to include the words "pool route" or "pool service" in your domain name. Not only will this assist your clients in remembering the domain name, but it will also help boost your website in the search engines as well.

CONCLUSIVE STRATEGY By strategically developing your domain name, your website will certainly reap the benefits. Having a domain name that fits your purpose or product, a memorable, relatively short address, and keywords in the domain name are all critical components for the success of your website.
Keeping the marketing, length, and keyword strategies in mind, you can successfully choose a domain name that will maximize the success of your online business.

6 Secrets to Making Money Buying and Selling Domain Names

By Phil Craig

Here are 6 Rules to Live by if You Want to Be Successful in Buying and Selling Domain Names:

1. Study the sales data, let the domain sales data tell you what is in demand...whatever you do, do not guess --

Say you have the dream and desire to successfully buy and sell domain names, you have to be a student of the domain name aftermarket. Here are a few websites you should check to see what is selling. One being the sedo.com marketplace. Another site that you have to check is dnjournal.com which is run by Ron Jackson, a fellow domainer. You can find a page where all of the recent sale data is listed. Let this be a guide in your decision-making as to what is in demand.

2. Be sure you learn about dropped names with traffic and expired domain names with Google page rank --

Some domainer's make a business of buying and selling expired names that have existing traffic. A dropped domain name that has traffic is in demand. If you couple an expired domain name with traffic along with Google PR, that is a wonderful combo to have.

Some of you might wonder what an expired domain is. An expired domain is one in which the prior registrant(owner)failed to pay their annual renewal fee. When a prior owner fails to renew a domain, there is a 30 day grace period. After that anyone can get it. The benefit to the domainer is that all of the work the prior owner did is passed on to the new owner. That means everything: the traffic, the back links, the PR are passed to the new owner. And get this -- the existing Google page rank is passed on. Buyers want domain names with page rank and will pay a premium. This makes your domain name more easy to sell.

3. Short is is in demand--

The shorter the length of the domain name the more desirable it is. Domain name purchasers give a good deal of economic value to a short domain name. All you need to do is research out what you would have to invest to buy a two letter.com domain. Even research out the price the three letter.com domains are being bought at. Just go to a domain name aftermarket like moniker.com. If you look at the auctions occurring you'll see 3 letter names -- dot-coms -- going for hundreds if not 1000s of dollars. Four letter domains are likewise in craved by the domain aftermarket crowd.

If we are planning to focus on generic keyword-based domains, keep foremost in mind that the shorter domain is better.

4. ".coms" are the best - they will offer you the highest reward --

With all the new domain names extensions offered today, it's not hard to get confused.

Domain name extensions are the letters after the dot. For example, in the domain name Google.com, the.com is the domain name extension. The three letters that come after the dot. This is also referred to as the "TLD" which stands for top level domain.

To add to the confusion are confusingly new extensions being offered (almost on a regular basis). For example, recently, the .me TLD was offered. We already have .com, .net, .org, .info, .mobi (nice, huh?). It can appear overwhelming.

If you are planning to concentrate on buying and turning domains you have to realize that the.com extension is the most coveted. It has been around the longest. A.com name is associated with constancy and an genuine presence on the Web. Now do not take me wrong -- the other extensions do have plenty of proponents -- and I can see also a want for them. But for the sake of flipping domain names, the.com is the topper.

5. Keep an e-mail list of your buyers and contact them with your best deals --

The money is in the list. I am sure you've heard that. That means your e-mail list of buyers is an asset. If you get involved in the domain name reselling game, your list of buyers are proven to be people who are interested in purchasing good domain names. It is critical that you send your list a listing of your domain names before they are made available to anyone else. Wouldn't it be exciting to have a domain name sold as soon as you send it out to the list?

6. Trademarks = headaches --

One of the quickest ways to get yourself tied up in a legal battle is to buy a domain name that contains the trademark of another company or person. Trademarks are considered to be property rights. The trademark owner has the right to prevent anyone from capitalizing on it. It is very hard to sell a domain name that contains a trademark. On top of that, most parking companies prevent parking trademark domains. This means no parking revenue.

Beware of trademark-based domain names. They could result in tremendous liability.

Understanding the Ultimate Power of Pay Per Click Campaign to Create Expired-Domain Fortunes

By John Khu

The ultimate power of a Pay per Click program to enhance the power and potential of an expired domain is undisputed and unquestioned. A PPC campaign is a well conceived program that helps you earn small income, apart from guiding a constant stream of expired domain traffic to your expired domain. However, the underlying principle of using a PPC program is still mysterious and suspenseful; it pays you a lot when you make an effort to learn all these secrets and hidden principles. A highly organized PPC campaign provides you a number of benefits and advantages to your expired domain name. Some of these advantages are:

It is possible for you to reach the right type of traffic when you use PPC; this program is very innovative in nature with its precise mechanism in reaching the right type of target and to convert them into a highly productive site visitor.

When someone conducts a detailed research for your product or service, you can term him or her as highly qualified and targeted; these visitors are the rarest type of surfers, who contribute to develop an excellent pool of traffic to your web site.

PPC always ensures that the person who visits your site will purchase some products or services.

PPC program is also quite useful in turning your web portal as a money making venture; an expired domain based web portal with an inbuilt capability to earn some money could be a potential money-spinner.

Along with the perceived benefits, PPC program also has many disadvantages like:

At times, a PPC campaign may go wrong and you may not get the desired results. Developers are still trying to refine and fine tune this technology and there may be improved versions of the system in the coming years.

If you are not careful enough, the advertizing cost may go out of control. Thus, designing a perfect PPC program by selecting the right type of keywords is of paramount importance.

Though, a PPC campaign is a viable exercise to create expired domain fortunes, it may work out to be very expensive, as bidding on important keywords could be an expensive process.

Bidding on a particular keyword could be highly competitive as well.

To save money and to conserve your precious monetary resources, you can create a bidding system on a related keyword with no current bid showing on it. You can stay on top of the search by simply monopolizing the traffic, and in such cases, you just need to pay a small amount per click.

Another thoughtful way to set up a good campaign to create expired domain fortunes is to develop meaningful landing pages that can derive highest rate of returns. Landing pages are mandatory for PPC campaign for visitors referred from other targeted click programs. You can also create a series of similar pages that lie within the main site or they can also be smaller or micro sites specifically designed and perfected for a PPC campaign.

The main goal of integrating landing pages is to convert site visitors into a definite sale. However, maintaining and managing landing pages needs both time and money and hard work to wait for the desired results. The best suggestion for you is to manage advertising and landing pages in a perfect synergy, empower and qualify the design aspects, and to urge the site visitor to take some action and create a targeted traffic link.

4 Simple Steps in Buying and Selling Domain Names For Windfall Profits

By Fabian Tan

Buying and selling domain names is probably the best online business available on the internet today. It involves minimal capital investment and it's almost risk-free. Here are some guaranteed simple steps to thrive in this profitable business:

1. Do your research first before registering any domain names. Junk domain names are useless in this business. So, research for domain names that are:

a) Easy to remember

b) Niche market specific

c) Generic or popular English words

d) Free from infringement

e) Short words

f) Keyword phrase rich

2. Market registered domains. Hundreds and thousands of domain names are registered daily. Therefore, to be able to sell, one should aggressively market their product in major websites with auction, featured or prime listing. Create buying desire and awareness in the thoughts of your prospects.

3. Evaluate your domain name properly. You need to check and compare the price expected from your domain name by comparing it with similar names already sold in order to avoid being short change or lose an opportunity to sell for more. Or, you can invest in appraisal and get your domain name appraised by a professional. An advantage of this is that it gives you an idea of how much should you be willing to sell your domain name for.

4. Develop it. You can also increase the market value of your domain name by developing and increasing its traffic over time and developing a website on it. This way, you can sell it for a much higher price than selling it outright.

Domain Names and How They Relate to Search Engine Ranking

By Joseph Nyamache

Is it better to renew your domain name for a long period of time? If so, how long is long enough? Well let's face it, most of us wish to stay ahead of the game. Therefore one of the first steps that you'd want to do is to check for how long your competitors have registered their personal or business names. If you notice that your competitors have registered their domains for one or two years, then you can go that one step ahead and register your domain name for 5 or 10 years. Your search engine ranking may be assisted if you stall the expiration date of your domain name. However, it is important to bear in mind that this may only be a small victory when it comes to search engine rankings.

Registering a domain for a minimum of 10 years is good business sense. Many of us have too many things on our minds or more important things that thinking about our domain names. For this reason, the process of renewing your names every year is a task that you could really do without. It is greatly advised to obtain a domain name that you wish to keep for a sufficient amount of time and renew them on a 5 to 10 year plan.

There is a possibility that if your name expires, someone will immediately register your domain at the first opportunity. It is important to remember that there are domain names 'watch lists' that people can view in order to grab an available domain as soon as it becomes available. Therefore, if you do not renew your name, for whatever reason, someone that is watching that list may attempt to capitalize on the online business that you have built up over the years. These people will be aware of the fact that there is potential website traffic simply by renewing your old domain. For this reason it is better to renew your domain name for several years so that it will not be opened up to expired domain name buyers.

To stay ahead of the game, you may wish to consider registering or renewing your choosen name for 100 years. At this present time, the only available option for this is with Network Solutions at www.netsol.com at the cost of $999.00. You can also visit GoDaddy at www.godaddy.com in order to renew or register a domain name for 10 years at a discount price of $6.95 per year. When you do not register your name in time, you can lose critical positioning in the search engines. This may result in you having to begin the SEO process all over again!

Domain Expiration Explained

By John Motson

Domain names expire. Registrars are allowed to provide a domain name registration with a duration period of between 1 and 10 years. After your domain name registration period elapses, your domain is set to expire. You are usually notified by your registrar of any pending domain expirations. If you opt against renewing that domain, the domain eventually expires and is dropped into the available domain pool.

Be aware that registrars provide the option to auto-renew your domain names. If you own a highly valuable domain, or if you do not wish to worry about your domain ever expiring, you can easily set your domain name to auto-renew via options that your registrar provides.

The domain name expiration process is defined by a set number of domain states. These states are concrete and are conformed to by every registrar, however the duration of each state might vary from one registrar to another.

Active status is the general status of a working / live domain name. Domains in the active status can be renewed or transferred at any time.

On-hold status is the status of a domain immediately after the expiration date. A domain in the on-hold status will cease functioning, and the site that uses this domain will appear to be down.

During the on-hold status, the domain can still be renewed at normal renewal rates by the owner. The on-hold status duration varies between registrars.

Redemption Period status is a recent addition by ICANN providing the original owner with a second chance at renewing their domain.

The redemption period lasts for 30 days at all registrars and renewal costs are larger then a general renewal rate. To renew a domain in the redemption period, the owner must pay fees extending up to and over $150, depending on the registrar.

Pending Delete status is the final status prior to release of a domain name. This status follows the redemption period and lasts up to 5 days.

There is no way for the original owner to renew their domain at this time, apart from waiting for the domain to be released and then attempting to re-register it.

It is important to note that nowadays almost no domains enter the pending delete period. If they are any good, they are placed into an auction by the registrar and only if there are no bids do they eventually drop. Almost all major registrars have an associated expiring domain auction. Godaddy have TDNAM, Enom/NetSol have NameJet etc.

How to Transfer a Domain Name

By John Motson

A domain name transfer refers to a change of ownership of a domain name. Some of the reasons to transfer a domain are:

1. You have just sold or purchased that domain.

2. You are dissatisfied with your current registrar.

3. You need to renew a domain.

Sometimes it is cheaper to renew a domain name by paying for a transfer, then by paying the renewal fee. For example, GoDaddy domain transfers cost around $7 and include a 1 year domain

renewal. If your domain is registered with Moniker where renewals cost $10, it is cheaper to transfer to Godaddy and get the inclusive 1 year extension. You will save $3. A $3 saving per domain renewal equates to a lot of cash, especially if you own hundreds of domains.

It is important to keep in mind that registrars do not allow the transfer of domains to another registrar within a set period of time following the registration of a brand new domain name. For example Godaddy allows transfer away of a domain 60 days after an initial registration. Transferring a domain from one account to another account within the same registrar can be done at any time.

Some registrars enforce an external transfer lock on a domain for a set time period if you make any alterations to contact information. Again, up until recently Godaddy placed a 60 day transfer lock if any changes were made on contact info on a domain. This was a security feature which was implemented to help prevent domain theft.

There are two types of domain name transfers.

1. Ownership transfers within the same registrar.

The following steps summarize such a transfer at Godaddy (other registrars follow a similar procedure, check their FAQ for details ):

1. Log-in to your registrar user account.

2. Access your domain list.

3. Access the change account details / transfer domain feature (different depending on registrar).

4. Enter new owner account details, including the email / username of the new owner.

5. Complete the transfer request.

At this point, your registrar sends an email notifying both parties of the transfer initiation. The email sent to the new owner usually contains a set of security keys combined with other information related to the domain transfer.

To complete the transfer the new owner follows the steps outlined in the email sent by the registrar.

At Godaddy these steps can be summarized as follows (other registrars follow a similar set of steps, check their FAQ for details):

1. New owner logs into their registrar account.

2. New owner accesses their account pending changes screen.

3. New owner enters the domain security codes as provided in the email they received from the registrar.

4. New owner completes the transfer process.

2. Transferring a domain from one registrar to another.

This type of transfer can be summarized by the following steps:

1. Owner of domain name removes registrar lock placed against the domain name. This is done by using the "Remove lock" feature of your account's domain administration interface. Note: A registrar lock is placed by the owner of a domain name in order to prevent any attempts of transferring that domain name.

2. New owner logs into their account at their registrar.

3. New owner accesses the transfer domain screen and initiates transfer of said domain.

4. Their registrar informs the present domain owner (email retrieved via WhoIs information of domain) that a transfer has been initiated.

5. Present owner confirms transfer via their registrar account.

6. Transfer is completed.Note: Transfer may take a few hours to show up in your registrar account.

Most registrars follow a similar pattern as above, but to be sure, check their FAQs or contact them directly.

Make Money Off Domain Name Investing

By Sarah Celeste

This is a unique time in internet history and the window is closing faster and faster all the time. This is the hottest investment opportunity since the invention of private real estate ownership.

What is that investment? Domain names.

There have been some record-breaking sales in recent years. Fund.com sold for $10 million, BoiseIdaho.com went for $175,000, Skireports.com slid into an $800k deal, DataRecovery.com raked in nearly $1.7 million.

Most of these names were purchased for less than a hundred dollars years ago. Talk about a return!

There is still plenty of opportunity today. Plenty. There are a couple of ways to approach this business.

1) Register generic domain names

Look for unregistered names. However, with this, keep in mind that all the one word generic dictionary words are taken, and a lot of the two word generic names are taken. But you can still often find two and three word generics if you work at it.

When looking for names, realize that clever isn't the way to go. You should look for generic names. Names that reflect an industry and reflect search traffic.

Example: Cars.com is far superior to JaysAutoShack.com. Cars.com will rise to the top of the search engines for the term Cars, the other will languish in obscurity.

2) Jump on trends

Scan magazines, newspapers. Look for new trends, new slang words and register them before the words or phrases become hot.

Example: Not long ago I started hearing talk about Staycations. It's a new trend of people staying home for their vacation time instead of traveling. I thought that's going to become a major phrase. I looked-up staycation.com, but somebody had already beaten me to the punch.

However, important lesson learned.. trends are always happening. Read the paper and as many magazines as you can find and you'll surely nab some of these increasingly valuable names.

3) Local domain names

This is a hot emerging market. While local domain tends to not fetch the headline grabbing sales, you can do quite well buying and flipping.

Example: Find local service names. NewYorkPetGrooming, BostonHospiceCare.com. Names should reflect local services. People tend to use Google instead of the yellow pages to look up information, which makes these names more and more valuable. You can get these names for registrations fees and it's not uncommon to sell them for thousands in a very short time.

4) Buy aftermarket names

This takes some upstart capital. But find names you like that are parked and make offers. You can search the pages of Sedo.com to find names for sale or use DomainTools.com.

Example: Two years ago I purchased two names from SEDO.com. They weren't cheap, the low five-figures combined, however eight months later I flipped the names for 450% more than what I paid. If I had kept them I have not doubt they would turn into thousand plus returns.

There you have it... some basic tips to help you cash in on this phenomenal new industry.

Protect Your Privacy When Registering Your Domain Name

By Robert J. Miller

Did you know that when you register a domain name your personal information is made public? Imagine your home address, email and phone number being listed on the World Wide Web for all to see, all over the world!

Why is My Information Made Public?

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is tasked with keeping the Internet secure and stable. Their policy is to require domain name providers (the companies you buy domain names from) to make your contact information public for several reasons. First, when technical issues with your website arise, you can be easily contacted. Second, it makes it easier to enforce consumer protection. Third, you can be contacted in case of trademark violations or enforcement of other laws. Lastly, the information is used to validate requests to transfer a domain name registration to another registrar company. This is common when you select a new web hosting provider.

Here is How Your Information Can Be Used:

  • Businesses or individuals who are interested in obtaining your registered domain name, can use the information to determine when the domain name expires or to offer your money to purchase the domain name from you.
  • Law enforcement agencies can use the information to investigate illegal activities.
  • Intellectual property rights holders can use the personal information to contact those in violation (think trademarks).
  • People could use the information to contact you personally.
  • Companies can use the information to send junk mail.

How much of your information is made public?

Among your personal information that is made public is:

  • Your name, address, phone number and email address.
  • The date your domain name was registered.
  • The date that your domain name will expire.
  • Your web hosting provider name and IP addresses.

How Can You Protect Your Privacy?

One of the best ways to protect your privacy when registering a domain name is to register in the name of a third party. Many domain name companies will register your domain name as a third party for a small annual fee. Some of the top web hosting providers will register your domain name as a third party for free if you buy the domain name from them.

How to Save Money on Domain Registrations

By John Motson

You can save a lot of money if you approach domain registration wisely. You might not consider a saving of $1 or $2 to be a lot. However, if you are registering in bulk, these $1 or $2 can quickly turn into $50 or $100, which is quite considerable.

Use Coupons

An excellent way to save money while registering domains, is to use coupon codes. I never register a domain without using a coupon code. A Godaddy or NameCheap registration generally costs around $10. However, if you use a coupon, this fee is reduced to $7 or $8.

I regularly post coupon codes at my blog. Alternatively, you can search for "domain coupons". Once you find a coupon code, proceed to your registrar's domain name registration page. During checkout, enter the coupon code you found for some excellent domain name registration savings.

Registrar Premium Memberships

Another excellent way to save money is to become a premium member of a registrar. By becoming a premium member of a registrar, you can purchase domains at a set discounted rate. You also receive other bonus benefits which vary depending on which registrar you use. Contact your favorite registrar for further information.

Shop Around

Don't settle for one registrar. People tend to get into a habit and continually register all their domain names at one registrar. Shop around!

You can make great savings by buying your domains at different registrars. Registrars regularly run holiday specials, and various other promotions during which you can get domains at great rates. Only recently Godaddy provided registration of all .info domains at an amazing rate of $0.99 per registration while most other registrars charged $7 or more.

Be careful though to limit your registrar count to a manageable 4 or 5. Many domainers have lost their domains to expiration by forgetting about the domains they had registered with obscure registrars.

Buy In Bulk

Buying in bulk is another way to save on registration fees. Most domain registrars offer discounted rates if you purchase domains in bulk.

An Introduction to Domaining and Domain Names - What is a Domain?

By John Motson

Domaining is perhaps best described by the "real estate of the web" analogy. One-word dictionary domains are your beach-front villas. Premium keyword domains are your two-story homes, the LLL.coms (Letter Letter Letter) are your land lots etc.

What Is A Domain Name?

A domain name is an entity's registered name on the Internet.

In the past, a website was accessed by an IP address ( e.g. 112.123.12.12). Because humans find it easier to remember keywords then numbers, and because a website may change it's IP address multiple times during its lifetime, these days that IP address is represented by a domain name. Today, we type a domain name in the URL of our browser to access specific websites.

Each domain name has a suffix - an extension which indicates what top level domain (TLD) that domain belongs to. For example, dnxpert.com belongs to the .com Tld.

Types Of Domain Names

Domains are classified by their top level domains (TLDs). Top level domains - TLDs - are the letters that follow the last dot of a domain name.

There are three types of top level domains currently identified by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA):

1. ccTLDs or Country Code Top Level Domains are used by countries and dependent territories. They are limited to two letters. Examples of ccTLDs are .us (United States), .de (Germany), .it (Italy).

The rules of registration of ccTLD domains vary from country to country. For example, Indian TLD domains (.in) can be registered by anyone, while Andorran TLD domains (.ad) can only be registered by Andorran entities (Andorran individuals and organizations).

2. gTLDs or Generic Top Level Domains were in theory meant to be used by specific types of organizations. Today, almost all gTLD domains can be purchased by anyone - with the exception of .mil and .gov which are restricted to US authorities. Examples of gTLDs are .com, .net, .info, .org, .asia etc.

3. iTLDs or Infrastructure Top Level Domains have a limited use. The only known iTLDs are .root and .arpa.

What Are the Basics of Buying and Selling Domain Names For Profit?

By Fabian Tan

When you want to buy or sell a domain name, there is some information that you want to consider before stepping into this market. It can be profitable, but it also can sink you into a hole if not done correctly.

Here are some basics on how to do this.

1. Locate properties

When looking into buy or sell domain names, there are many ways to locate these properties. Auction, private sale and broker are just three of the ways that these domains can be located.

2. Limit your personal information when buying any type of domain

Nothing needs to be known about what you are planning to do with the domain after it is purchased. When selling, the same holds true for the buyer of the domain. Keep it simple.

3. Favorite search engine

Locating these properties can be as easy as a web search into your favorite search engine. Whether you buy or sell a domain name, the locating of this type of domain is fairly easy to find.

4. Selling can also be done a variety of ways and means

It is up to the individual as to which process is chosen with the domain names to be bought or sold. Each one is profitable in and of itself.

Now, with that being said, do not expect to really make a hard killing flipping domain names. That is really the exception rather than the rule and the gains of either one are modest at best. So when looking to either buy or sell a domain name, you now have the facts to guide you.

How You Can Sell Domain Names For Virtual Floods of Cash

By Fabian Tan

Looking for a way into the buy and sell domain names market? Well, I have that information for you. It is easy to buy and sell this type of property and someone who is sharp can really profit from the demand for these types of properties.

1. Buying domains

Buying domains from other sellers or buying them from domain companies is a welcome way to get into the market of buy and sell domain names. This is just one way that this can be done.

2. Be anonymous

Be as anonymous as possible when buying a domain name to keep the prices low. There is not a fixed price on domain names. The less that is known about you the buyer, the lower the price will actually go.

3. Selling domains

When selling a domain, you want to decide whether or not to go through a broker. The advantage is that the broker can do multiple listings in order to attract more buys for your domain name. They can also be involved in the buy and sell domain names business.

4. Active page

If you are doing this alone, you will need to create an active page in order to promote the domain in question. If you do this alone, bear in mind that you will need to do a lot of advertising in order to sell the particular domain.

When looking to buy or sell domain names, it is best to know what you want to accomplish and how to accomplish it. The directions above give some viewpoint into that particular process.

Making Money With Domain Names

By Diane Palmer

If you want to start a home business, and are looking to the internet for some ideas, but don't really want to get into website building etc.. why not consider creating and selling domain names?

There are many internet marketers out there that are making good money selling domain names. Especially ones who started early when the internet was just getting started.

But its not too late. Take a look at what is going on around you for some ideas and niche's, when the gas crisis hit, there were many domain names created for websites on saving gas. Try to come up with original niche ideas, that would be good for a website, and try and create a domain name to match it.

If you thought it was a great idea, chances are someone else will like the idea too, and purchase your domain name from you. If your domain name is really catchy it could fetch a high dollar amount, and wouldn't that make your day!

While you are brainstorming these brilliant website ideas and domain names, make sure to write them down, it is easy to forget them during your busy day. Then do a search on a domain registry and see what comes up. Don't be discouraged by "this name is already taken". Keep trying, and then once you find that perfect domain name, register it, then it is yours.

Then you have to decide what to do with it, you could choose to just keep it and renew it each year, you could start that website, or you can sell your domain name on the registry or sites like Ebay. Or you can park it where it will make you some advertising money.

There are a few parking sites out there, and if you have quite a few names, it would be something worthwhile to consider. You might as well turn those pieces of future real estate into some cash.

Make Your Domains Work For You

By Diane Palmer

Are you a creative person? Do you enjoy coming up with great business names?. Are you the "idea" person at work?. Then why not continue this creativity onto the internet.

More and more people are entering the world wide web, and it is becoming increasingly harder and harder to come up with a great domain name, especially with a "dot com" at the end of it. If you go to such sites as Go Daddy, and try out your creative website name in a search, you will be amazed at how many times the search will come back "This name already taken". You have to really start thinking through your domain names.

For a great website, you need to start with at least an idea of what the website will be about, then come up with a great domain name. Think of some great niche's, think of the everyday things you do, and keep a notepad with you, just in case you come up with lots of great inspiring ideas. You could have a flash of brilliant ideas at work, only to lose them somewhere between your boss driving you nuts and coffee break, so write them down!

Once you have these great ideas for websites, get on your computer right away, and register those inspiring domain names, even if you have not got the time to start the actual website, at least you will have the name registered to you.

If down the road, you decide you don't want that name anymore, you can always sell it. But if you want your domain names to be working for you, at least while you think of a great website, there are sites that will let you "park" your domain name and possibly make some money in advertising.

If you are one of those creative people, who have come up with many domain names and have them registered, waiting for the day you get that great website going, at least make them working domains, and cash in on some advertising money while you wait. This is also a great way to find out, how inspiring those domain names really are. Take a look at any of the domain registry sites, and see about the domain parking possibilities for your future money making sites. There is usually a monthly fee, but if you have lots of inspiring domain names out there, it might be worth it.

Domain Sales Machine Review

By Clifford Willey

If you are looking for a Domain Sales Machine Review, you should read this article entirely to find out about my experience with it. With the lessons I learned from this domain investing course, I have been able to develop a clear vision for my domain investments and I know exactly how to make the most profits out of my domains portfolio.

1. What Types Of Domain Names Have I Learned To Find With The Domain Sales Machine System?

Most of the time, I am able to get my domain names to generate revenue on their own while I wait to make a much bigger profit opportunity through a large lease or sales transaction. There are domain names that will be costing you money (from yearly renewal fees to maintain the registration) while you are waiting to profit from them, and these are the names that you should avoid buying or think of ways to make them sustain themselves while you own them.

As a rule of thumb, always plan how you are going to earn money from your portfolio of domains before going ahead to purchase them.

2. Should You Always Buy .Coms?

There is significantly less risk when you buy .com domain names as compared to other extensions. Also, if you are able to get in early for any popular country code top level domains like .us, you may also have the opportunity to buy greatly profitable domain names.

3. What Kind Of Domain Names Will Become More Profitable In The Future?

It is not easy to predict the future of the domain industry, but Domain Sales Machine has given me a good analysis and helped me see what this industry will look like in the future. It is this inside knowledge that is helping me see opportunities to buy up great domain names for cheap and making huge profits out of my domains portfolio. I highly recommend anyone interested to profit from domain investing to find out more about Domain Sales Machine.

Two Easy Ways to Make Money From Internet Real Estate - Namely Buying and Selling Domain Names!

By Avril Harper

I'm a great believer in dreaming up new product ideas daily, some for my own business, some to write about for my readers.

These ideas focus on domain names and the immense prices often paid for them on eBay and other domain name auction selling sites, like Sedo, for instance.

I'm new to Sedo, I knew nothing about this domain name auction company until a week ago when one of my readers told me she buys domain names and resells them at Sedo. She sometimes makes just twenty or thirty pounds profit, she has made hundreds on one or two domain names, and she's no stranger to making thousands of pounds just weeks after registering an inexpensive domain name.

I won't go into the whys and wherefores about selling on Sedo, it's all there for you to read about at www.sedo.com

All you need from me is a shock account of the prices fetched for domain names at Sedo, even names we can all dream up with a little practice.

Having looked at recent prices fetched at Sedo, I began looking for unregistered domain names sell on eBay or Sedo and I'm surprised how easy it actually is.

It won't surprise you to know I've decided, every day, to spend at least fifteen minutes dreaming up new domain names with potential to fetch such high prices. It isn't difficult, and there are ways to ease the search and also add another possible income stream to the exercise:

1) Do your search at ukreg.com or godaddy.com where you'll discover all available suffixes for your chosen words as well as a list of unregistered domains for words closely resembling whatever you keyed into those company's search engines. So if, for example, you search alternative suffixes for a domain that's just fetched thousands of pounds on Sedo, it isn't unusual to find many still unregistered and with similar profit potential. I know that because I've just registered the .co.uk version of several high ticket sales for .com versions.

2) When you find a suffix available for which the .com or other version suffix has already been registered, check out the web site for the registered domain. You'll often find a profitable new business idea to start right away and a great domain name available to accompany it!

Surfing Your Brain Waves For Great Domain Names

By Diane Palmer

Picture this.. you are sitting at work, bored out of your tree, when a brilliant idea for a website enters your brain space! You get excited about it, and are about to look up some ideas on the internet, when your boss walks by, and calls you into a meeting.

Later, after you digest the meeting, and have your day mapped out for you, you think you will take a few minutes to check out that fabulous idea you had earlier in the day, when all you can do is draw a blank. You blink at the computer, and realize that, that "brain wave" you had, just left the building.

Here is what you do.. you go to the nearest dollar store after work, and you buy yourself a small notepad. Yes, its that simple, and you carry this notepad everywhere. When you have another attack of the "brain waves" then write it down.

Your brain can only hold so much, and these inspirations will flutter through your brain, and then flutter out the other side. Have you ever tried to remember a dream you had the night before?.. First thing in the morning, you will remember some of it, but as the day wears on, and your brain fills up with daily stuff, your dream will disappear. Some people keep a notepad by their bed, so they can write down these dreams, which could also be great ideas for a domain name, website idea, business idea who knows?

Just write everything down. Now what do you do with all these notes and ideas?. Come up with some great website ideas, and domain names for these potential websites. Sometimes just coming up with the name, will inspire a great idea for a website. But some days, your brain might be going a mile a minute and come up with some really great domain names, but not sure about the website part just yet.

Go to your home computer and register those great domain names. This way you will find out if they are truly original, and then they are yours. Once you have done this, you may end up with a large list of domain names. Now find a way to make some money with these domain names, while you are brain storming a website idea. Research domain name parking. Some registry sites will let you park names in return for advertising income. So, now that you have a system for these great domain names, keep that notepad by you, and write your ideas down, you will thank yourself later.

How to Choose a Good Domain Name For Your Website

By Georgi Jivankin

If you have your own business or you are planning to start one, it's essential to have a memorable domain for branding it. In this article I'll give you some tips for choosing a good domain name for your business website.

Be creative. A good domain name consists of easy to remember words. Don't try to think of complicated or long names, because they will simply get out of your visitor's heads when they close your website. Use general vocabulary and avoid technical or complex words.

Be unique. Select your domain name properly so it won't interfere with your competitors in your niche or business. Do not use common names such as brands, companies or products in your domain. Avoid abbreviations, unless they are something very familiar for the average Internet user or consumer.

Be smart. Think like a marketer and see which words will be best for your SEO optimization and PPC advertising. Usually the search engines love the domain names containing dashes or underlines, but you should avoid them, because it's not comfortable for your users to type long domain names and also they are not suitable for mouth-to-mouth advertisement.

One of the mistakes many marketers and business owners do is to use misspellings in their names. Do not use them, because you simply do not look professional. For example, do not use "4yu" or "4u" instead of the original "foryou". Yes, it's easier to type "4u" instead of "for you", but you will confuse your customers and while they are trying to access your website, they may land on a competitor's website instead. And last but not least, do not use numbers or other symbols in your domain name. It's not generally accepted in the Internet to use digits or other symbols in the domain names, so it's better not to use them unless you have a good reason to do so.

What's in the Name of a Website?

By Vicki Bell

You have decided you want a commercial web site. What's the first thing you need; a www.address? No. Get back to basics first. Do you have a product to market or are you looking for one? If you have a product (or think you do) do your research before you think of buying a web address. Is there really a demand for your product, at what price? How will you package your item, for shipping? What are the postage charges? What countries will you be shipping to? How much does it really cost you to supply each item? Don't forget to consider the time it will take to pack & ship each product. Time equals money. What if you don't have a product, but you're sure you know what you want to sell. Again do your research. If you looking at drop shipping, get a reliable supplier & all details sorted out such as what countries does your supplier ship & not ship too? Can you get insurance? Also will it be possible to get another drop shipper to supply similar or preferably the same product if your first supplier closes shop? If not perhaps you should look for a different type of product.

Do you really need to do all this preparation before you buy your domain? Yes. Consider what's in the name of a website? Don't you want it to reflect the name of your product & even help with SEO (search engine optimisation)? Therefore you really need to know what you are definitely going to sell before you start.

I wanted to start a jewellery site. I found a few drop shippers including one that supplied large amounts of beautiful coloured gemstone rings, bracelets, pendants & earrings. I came up with a name for the site that suited my ideas of how I wanted to market the site "GemLovers with Gifts for Others." After building a substantial amount of the site the time came to get my registered address & make my store live. After checking what web address were available for purchase I paid out my money on thegemlovers.com Is this a good name? Well, in many ways it does describe my store well. On the other hand I do sell Jewellery not gemstones. One other potential, very serious problem developed when my main drop shipper sold out to another buyer. GemLovers implied that I sell gemstone jewellery. There are several reliable suppliers of diamond jewellery, gold jewellery or silver jewellery; suppliers of coloured stones jewellery are not so numerous. Could we ever see GemLovers without the gems?

If you operate a commercial web store you may wish or even be forced to make massive changes as to stock & suppliers. You may change servers. As you get more experienced you may change your template & totally re-arrange the look & order of your site; but at the end of the day your web address is the one thing that is permanent. You need to make the name of it something you can live with & optimise permanently. A specialised name can be a handicap as well as a blessing.

I learnt a lesson with the name of my very first store. As I was selling Australian Aboriginal art & paintings, & had recently had my head filled with key words, reverse engines & the like, I went on the web to buy my name. To cut the story short, what did I come up with? aboriginalarttreasures.com Two key word, an excellent start - but I didn't think. I've ended up with "tt" in the spelling, not a great idea. While it is no doubt true that the majority of our visitors come via a link from either another web site or a search engine page - "what's in a name" may not seem so relevant the majority of our sales are usually from repeat customers.

It is best therefore to try for a domain name that is easy to type correctly & has some connection with what the site is about. There are differing ideas as to what value the search engines put on the address name of a store as far as ratings go. Consider that when you choose your web address, but remember there are other important factors to consider.

I went into internet trading because we were sold a web package before I knew what I was doing. After operating my stores for some years now & participating in forum discussions I now feel I know a little. I certainly understand the problems of ones who wish to go into e-commerce with very little knowledge of the subject. I've therefore prepared information to help beginners on my dinkydi.info web site, which you can check out for yourself.

I hope you have found this discussion helpful if you are considering getting a web address. While there is no doubt a great deal more that could be said on the subject, if you consider the points I've made you should not make any serious mistakes in choosing a suitable name for your store.

Domain Reselling - One of the Internet's New Trends

By Helen Cox

As the Internet grows and expands there always seems to be new ventures and ideas cropping up; this is especially true when it comes to aspects that revolve around the purchasing of domains and the building of new websites. So what does the world of domains and the Internet have to offer us now?

With the growth and expansion of the Internet domain reselling has came to the forefront and has been helped by many website design companies who offer the service of domain reselling. It is thanks to these website design companies that domain reselling has expanded and many of these domain reseller companies are now stand alone Internet businesses, but just what is this domain reseller business all about?

The companies who become the domain resellers provide registration of available domain names for their clients and often also engage in the process of acquiring expired domains from a drop registrar for later resale; so selling domain names as a reseller for an established registrar is a great solution for webmasters registering many domains, and a great money making opportunity for anyone on the Web.

Becoming a domain reseller holds great business potential. Whether you're a web designer, developer or search marketing service, or you're looking to establish your own domain management service, you could benefit from the help of an established provider. Many domain name registrars will offer reseller programs to any individual or business who wishes to sign up. If accepted, they can then register domains at lower prices through their parent ICANN accredited registrar and can then resell them to customers.

Whether you are hoping to become a domain reseller business or you are an individual or business who are wishing to make the most from using a domain reseller you will be giving yourself the added advantage of being able to use a range of tools which are available thanks to domain reseller programmes such as unlimited domain hosting and includes a range of added services such as search engine optimisation, load balancing and exchange email.

The basic idea of a domain reseller is to drum up more business for a registrar as the initial registrar will still take care of all the services such as registration and customer support; however the buyer pays the reseller and may even access the domain name control panel at the reseller's site, the domain name is actually registered with the reseller's parent registrar.

If you are looking to do business with a domain reseller company then you need to ensure that the domain reseller is trusted and the best way of ensuring this is finding out if the domain reseller is ICANN accredited. You should also do your research into your chosen domain reseller by finding out about their prices to see if they are competitive, provide exceptional customer service and have a state-of-the art IT infrastructure.

So for the latest when it comes to gaining a domain find out more about domain reselling and what it can do for you.

What is Quick Cash Domaining?

By Phil Craig

So that we start off on the same page let's first get straight what the term "domaining" means. For the sake of this article, domaining is a process of locating, buying, selling and otherwise monetizing domain names.

A "domainer" is someone who profits from domain names: the person who buys and sells (flips), parks for recurring income, develops, or otherwise monetizes a domain name.

So what is a "quick cash domainer?" And what is "quick cash domaining." Basically, a quick cash domainer refers to someone who is in business of buying and quickly selling a domain name for a profit.

What makes quick cash domaining different than "normal" domaining is the type of domain name that is bought and sold.

A quick cash domain name is one that is in demand. Using market discovery, the domainer locates and then presents to the market (buyers) those domain names. The type of domain names the buyers are proven to be looking for.

For example, I own the domain name, motelspismobeach.com. This is NOT a quick cash domain Even though the domain name receives type in traffic and provides me with a nice passive income from domain parking, it is not the type of domain I could easily or quickly sell. Buyers are not looking for or competing for this domain name. However, this type of domain name will continue to produce a nice and steady passive income stream to me.

What makes a quick cash domain name isn't necessarily a domain name we would hold for long term profit or appreciation. QCD's are purely market-driven.

The job of a quick cash domainer is to locate those markets, find what they are looking for, and present it to them. The keys are knowing what is in demand, and knowing how to find and buy, and then knowing how to sell. This is what I call quick cash domaining and that is what quick cash domaining is all about.

Can Cyber Squatters Really Be Stopped?

By Joseph Nyamache

Do you ever think about cyber squatters and how they can affect you? Read on you might be surprised. First of all as you very well know, it's your domain name that identifies you and in particular your site. For most people it might be hard to think that their domain name may be stolen, but that is completely possible!

Essentially cyber squatters are looking to steal your identity on the web and they can actually do it very easily. For instance, if you are listed at Myownsite.com, they might go and register Myownsite.biz, or Myownsite.org. When they have this, they will contact you and try to sell you these domain names and the site for quite a lot of money.

So what happens if you refuse? That is a good question; this is where things start to get ugly. Your refusal might mean that a competitor can get a site that will take type in traffic from you. You might find that you lose business over the confusion and that you might lose customers as well!

But all is not lost and you really should not let the cyber squatters to harass you, here is what you may do for instance; First make sure that you are the one that people have to go through to get authorization to do this. For instance, head to your domain name registrar and make sure that you lock in authorized entries of your claim of other domain names. You can easily buy them yourself and you will of course be able to control what happens.

You can arrange it so that if anyone is interested in these sites that they will be given your contact information and then make sure that you check with your registrar for the time frame that you have available; otherwise, you won't be able to check if the versions of your site ending in things like .com, .net, or .org are active. Make sure that you don't loose these domain name twins.

In conclusion do not let cyber squatters put you in a bad position; you have worked very hard to get where you are and you can work hard to keep of these guys too. You can do this by getting the authorization and the right to your domain name lookalikes and you will rest much easier.

Installment 2 in the Series - How to Get Your Website Seen on the Internet? - Your Domain Name

By Thomas C Schueneman

Where do I begin? We'll I guess that depends on if your just starting out or already have a website. I'll start you out at the very beginning, your domain name. What's a domain name you ask? It's that stuff that follows www and comes before .com. You'll probably use it as your company name if you can find a domain name that fits and isn't already taken. You can search for availability at many domain registrars on the internet. One of the best known is Godaddy.com. Your hosting company may also be able to supply the domain name. Never the less choose a company that is likely to be around for the long run. Not that you would loose your domain name if they went out of business but it could make it difficult to manage during bad times.

Your domain name is the first step and it's a major one. Why? Because it is the first thing a search engine web crawler will see. Your choice of domain name won't mean the difference between success or failure but you want to take advantage of choosing the best name possible. It's one factor out of dozens that you can control.

Let's say your business is selling fish. You might think a good domain name would be oceansdelite.com, but stop a minute to think. How many people looking to buy fish would ever type in "oceans delight" into a search engine? Not many unless they have already come across your name somewhere else, like the phone book, business card, or newspaper ad. In that case they won't be searching the internet for a place to buy fish will they? How about .freshfish.com? That probably would trigger a search engine to put you in the results a lot higher than oceansdelight.com. Lets suppose that when you go to your favorite domain store that "freshfish.com" isn't available. You might research that domain to find out who owns it and contact them to see if they might be willing to sell it at a reasonable cost, or you can try some domain variations. You could try fresh-fish.com, "fresh_fish.com", "freshfishtoday.com", "fresh-fish-seafood.com", or you could use .net or .biz. I think you get the idea. I realize that when you have to give someone you URL (domain name) verbally it can be annoying to double check that they have it right every time, but having the best search engine friendly domain name is worth it.

Here's something to try. Check out your competition on Google, search your most prominent keyword or keyphrase in Google search and take a look at the results numbers at the top right hand corner of the page. This will give you an idea of the task at hand. Only 30 or less websites will be listed in the first three pages of the results. If you're not in the top thirty your chances of being clicked on are about 10% or less. It's going to be a tuff job but it can be done. You won't get all your keywords in the top 30 but you can have the majority. You'll even have some in the top 10 and maybe some will be #1.

A final note for this installment: If your company name is "Oceans Delight" that won't keep you from having freshfish.com as a domain name. Lots of companies have domain names different than their company name.

The next installment will be choosing keywords, web creation software, and a hosting company. All of which are critical decisions you'll have to make.

Whatever You Wanted to Know About Expired Domain Auctioning Strategies

By John Khu

Domain trading professionals, who are in possession of a series of domains names, make it a habit to dispose them off by using a number of techniques and strategies. Expired domain auctioning is probably the most lucrative, attractive, profitable and simple method of selling domain names. Auctioning is an interesting option for people who wish to double or even treble the asking price and earn a hefty amount of profit as a result. Expired domain auctioning is a process of offering good domain names to the highest bidder in a fiercely contested auctioning process.

Expired domain auctioning is an internationally accepted form of selling good expired domains, where a domain trader will offer appealing expired domains to interested bidders. If you have good domains in your possession, you can try out this method to make some extra money. Several factors and parameters affect expired domain auctioning and you may consider auctioning under the following conditions:

1) How good and appealing your expired domains are? Do you feel that they can help the person who buys them at an inflated price?

2) Do you have an appraisal study carried out on the domains auctioned by you? Appraisal studies will help add a real value to your expired domains because a typical appraisal study provides sensitive information on the real worthiness of domain, its history, previous activities, and traffic, if any.

3) Do you feel that you are offering a domain that can help the buyer to flip it into a viable web site?

Expired domain auctioning is an intelligent game, where you will be promoting your domain to thousands of domain buyers, who always make it a point to buy only the best among the lot. Before putting your domains under auction, you may also wish to conduct a detailed research on the feasibility of selling the expired domain apart from studying the market place, how buyers act and behave, and understand different extraneous forces that influence the general mood of the market.

Many web portals help both the seller and buyers of expired domain names to transact in a very safe and secure ambience. Some of the well-known expired domain web portals are:

a) Pool

b) Snapnames

c) Enom

d) Namewinner

One of the best-known expired domain auctioning sites for your expired domain names is eBay Inc. This is a busy online auctioning place where thousands of people jostle for a breathing space and a firm foothold. E Bay is a great web portal that offers a special and innovative process that permits people to sell domains in a highly competitive and rigorously active auction process. The entire auctioning process is highly efficient and completely automated to provide a trouble free auctioning experience to both the buyer and seller. The highest bidder for the domain will have to honor the agreement by paying the bid money.

However, you may have to follow and obey a number of clauses and regulations before auctioning the domain for sale. The expired domain that you wish to sell should be top class and must carry a high value with them. Three or four lettered domain names could fetch you very good bid value, because they are the current hot favorite items in the market. Interested parties may also ask you to provide an appraisal report on the domain on sale.

Several enterprising expired domain auctioning web portals allow you to sell your domains through an elaborate auctioning process. Sites like Afternic or Sedo or GreatDomains provide a highly accomplished auctioning process using which you can dispose of your extra stock of domains in exchange for a small commission payable to the web portals. It is quite possible to sell your domain names to large business enterprises and corporations, who keep looking for very good domains. However, ensure that you are violating some other's copyrights and trademarks. Expired domain auctioning is a very lucrative process of getting rid of your excessive domain stock, and with luck you can reap a rich harvest provided you have the right set of domains.

How to Sell a Domain Name in 4 Easy Steps

By Fabian Tan

Selling domain names can be fun and profitable. However you need to know how to do it. This list will show you how to sell a domain name and make a profit from it.

1. Place a value on a domain name

This is necessary before you can sell it at a profit. When you sell a domain name, you are selling a property and there are ways to go about doing that. Decide on the value of your domain name. How much money did you make out of it? Is the topic it covers a hot topic at the moment?

2. Decide if you are going to sell it yourself or have someone else sell it for you

This is imperative to beginning the selling process for the domain name. The domain name, once valued will become a piece of property that can be worth a lot of money. You can spend the time looking for buyers for your product, or you can hire someone else to work for you on a commission basis.

3. Create an active site for the domain name in question

By setting up an active site, you are much more likely to sell the domain, than if you just simply creating a web page only. Bear in mind this is a good way to sell a domain name. When buyers see a complete site, it is more valuable in their eyes. This move is also likely to fetch you a higher price.

4. Closing the deal on a sale

By closing the deal on this sale, the domain name transfers to someone else and you see a profit. This is one of the best ways to sell this type of domain name. Instruct the buyer as to how you are going to transfer it.

This is just a basic primer on how to sell a domain name. This is the simplest version of how to sell one. This gives you the basics to be able to sell and to profit from this type of venture quickly and easily.

The Domain Age and Search Engine Rankings

By Elhusseiny Shahin

The length of your web site domain registration will affect SEO, yes or no? Must you renew your domains for a long period of time, 3 years for example? If you want to stay ahead of your competition, then you might consider looking at the length of time your competitor has registered its domain. If your competitor has generally renewed its domain for 1or 2 years, you might consider registering your domain for five or ten years. While putting off your domain's expiration dates may help your SEO, keep in mind that this will be only a very small victory when it comes to SEO and rankings.

It's good sense to register your domains for at least ten years. You may not want to deal with the process of renewing them every year. It will be best to obtain the domains that you want to keep for a while and renew then on a five to ten year plan.

If your domains expired, there are good chances that someone will register your domains immediately after they expired. For whatever reason, you couldn't renew your domain, someone watching a list of expiring domains will try to get the online business that you've built for years. H/she knows that there are good amount of traffic they can have simply by renewing your old domain.

If you want to stay ahead of the competition, you should register or renew your domains for at least 10 years. Currently, Network Solutions (www.netsol.com) is the only registrar offering the 100 years option, which costs $999.00. GoDaddy (www.godaddy.com), currently offers to renew or register a domain name for ten years, at a discount of $6.95 per year.

Domain Resellers

By Carolyn Clayton

When searching for domain companies, web design companies, internet marketing companies you will be spoilt for choice as there are so many. The same can be said for domain resellers which make the domain business a lot more competitive. Many web design or marketing companies have now become domain resellers as they buy so many domains themselves it makes sense to become a reseller and buy domains at cheap prices and then pass these savings on to their customers.

So what is a domain reseller? A domain reseller is someone or company that have registered to become a domain reseller and that can now sell domains. The difference between buying a domain of a proper domain registrar compared to buying them off a reseller is basically cheaper prices and better customer service. Resellers are agents for domain registrars. Because resellers buy their domains in bulk they are able to buy them at a cheaper price and sell them cheaper than the domain companies. Sounds confusing? It really isn't. Resellers are just like middle men, they act as agents for the domain companies. They buy domains in bulk at wholesale price and then sell them on. Simple!

If you are seriously considering becoming a domain reseller then you need to find yourself an ICANN Accredited Registrar. When a domain company becomes ICANN registered they are known as a trusted and reliable domain company. This is because ICANN( the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, one of whose jobs is to manage the assignment of domain names and IP addresses) keep the domain name system working and stable.

When a domain company is listed as ICANN registered you know that the domain company has been given the thumbs up the ICANN. In the world of domains this is a serious pat on the back. And it doesn't come cheap; it costs domain companies a lot of money to be classed as ICANN Accredited Registrars. There are hundreds of ICANN-accredited registrars worldwide so it is worth looking at a few and finding out which ones offer the best reseller packages.

Anyone can become a reseller but most resellers are companies that already have an internet based business such as Web Design companies and Search Marketing companies. But you don't have to have this type of business, you might just like to sell domains and going through the domain reseller option is the best, simplest and cheapest option.
