Try doing battle with your competition for a top spot in the search engines though if they have a domain name that has existed for several years or more! It can be even months or more. Those things grow roots and can be firmly implanted in their location of the search engines for certain keywords. Obviously, that is not the only reason they are hard to compete with. They have done the other things they need to do for search engine optimization as well and have been doing so for quite some time. I believe though that having an aged domain name does give one an advantage.
I have read much about SEO (search engine optimization) and practiced it as well. I wish I could tell you I have seen this documented and everyone is saying the same things. I have seen conflicting viewpoints however. From my experience though and from talking to others, I do believe age counts.
Something else to consider is when you purchase a domain name, you can buy it for one year or more. It is to your advantage to get it for longer durations...two or more years if you can! Search engines give more weight to domain names that they know are going to be around much longer than the one year. I am not 100% sure of this but we are not talking about a great deal of money and if it is true, every advantage counts!
Whether or not you believe aging of your domain name is important or not, getting the correct domain name is in my opinion, the most important thing you do when starting your business opportunity. Might as well get it, list it, and then begin the other steps to building your business! The process of getting your business going could take some time if you are already working full time and have a family. Life sometimes gets in the way!
