Several Ways to Optimize and Tweak Your Expired Domains

By John Khu

Trading and dealing with expired domains offers several opportunities to make decent income online. It is no wonder people call this business as online realty because of its exciting business concept. Talking about expired domain business is just like dealing with those premium properties in a big city filled to brim with fiercely competing realtors. Experienced realtors have the habit of promoting and advertising their premium properties in an efficient manner so as to make them saleable at equally premium prices. Expired domain industry is almost similar to a real estate industry where you will be competing with thousands of competitors to sell your expired domain names.

Along with those magnificent expired domains and their superb opportunities, you can also use the exciting search engine marketing techniques to optimize and tweak your expired domain names as well. Some of the most famous top level domains in the expired domain name industry are:-

i) .com,

ii) .net,

iii) .biz,

iv) .org and

v) .info

Expired domain traders choose to buy domain names that can yield better online profits. However, buying such domains could be a lucky affair because of the uncertainties and imponderables involved in the business. Keyword enriched domain names are the most desirable names that can offer you a number of benefits while combining a newly purchased domain name with an efficient search engine optimization (SEO) technique will help you launch the domain to very high search engine ranking.

All search engines simply love and adore keyword rich domain names because seeking to find a precise keyword in a domain seems to a very firm indicator of the domain's usefulness and relevance to a search command. When you flip your expired domains by making them relevant to search engines and later supplement high quality inbound traffic and links, then it is possible to sell your domains at a very high and premium price.

Simply speaking, keyword enriched domain names and the actual URL paths may not relate to each other. But careful tweaking of these parameters will help you achieve better organic ranking on top search engines like Yahoo and Google.

If you own non-keyword optimized expired domains, you can still tweak it for better rankings by supplementing a number of keyword enriched page names.

Using these techniques, you can build an inventory of highly useful expired domains that can provide you a chance to earn very decent income. Let us assume that you have plans to build an inventory of expired domain names over a niche keyword like "fresh flowers". It is easy to find useful domains centering on this keyword. Some of the useful keywords could be:

Fresh garden flowers

Fresh annual flowers

Fresh roses

Fresh flower boutique

The major benefit of enriching your expired domains with useful keywords is the branding ability and capacity to reach top of major search engines.

Transferring Domains to a New Registrar

By Allen Howard

First Consideration:

In addition to changing registrars, are you also moving your site to another server/ host?

If you are moving your website to another server, you may want to change the nameservers at the old ("losing") registrar, first. The transfer process usually takes days, and once the transfer is initiated, you will not be able to change the nameservers until it is complete.

Getting the domain ready to be transferred

The following will be performed at the old ("losing") registry:

Log in to the Registry

You need to know who your domain is registered through. If you do not know (Domains are registered in years or multiples and it is easy to forget) You can do a WHOIS search on many websites. DNSStuff.com has a pretty good WHOIS lookup and it is free. When looking at the WHOIS, you may or may not see the underwriting registrar. If you registered your domain directly, you may contact the registrar for your username and password. It is usually just a matter of clicking a lost password link. If your domain is registered through a reseller, you will need to contact the reseller for your login information.

Unlock the Domain

For security, the domain may be locked. Unlocking it is usually a matter of clicking a link and confirming that you actually want to proceed.

Take off Domain Privacy

Many people do not want their contact information to be publicly available, so they will buy domain "privacy". This must be turned off for the domain transfer to proceed, because the "winning" registrar (The new registrar) must send an email to the owner and/or administrative contact of the domain. WHOIS privacy disguises the owner's email address making it impossible for the winning registrar to contact them by email.

Request an EPP key (Authorization code or "auth. code")

Finally, after the domain is unlocked and privacy is ensured to have been turned off, have the registry send you an EPP key. (This is also known by other names such as "authorization code") Almost all domains today require an EPP key for a transfer. The authorization code will most often be emailed to the administrative or owner email address.

At the new ("winning") registry

Initiating the transfer

Log in to the new registry, or give the EPP key to the winning registrar or reseller. Input the domain name, EPP key and WHOIS information if required in the proper fields, and begin the transfer process.

The winning registrar will send the request to the losing registrar who will usually send you an email confirming you wish to perform the transfer.

Once the transfer is approved by you, usually within five business days, the domain will reside at the new registry. All future renewals, ownership contact changes or nameserver changes will be done at the new registry.

Domain Names and Their Many Purposes

By Vickie Scanlon

Domain names have many purposes, besides of course, creating a domain for a new webmaster so they can have a presence on the Internet. So, I'll delve into several different money making purposes of a domain name.

1. resell the domain name

2. set up a website to flip

If you are planning on reselling a domain name or flipping a website-you can't do it for free. So, in that case, you will need to have some money in your pocket and within your business plan.

Flipping a website

Everyone knows about the "Flipping a home". Well, there is also flipping a website. Flipping requires a major outlay or money, a website possibly. But one thing is certain. You will need:

1) Money for the purchase

2) skills and ability to turn the website into a profit so it can sell above what you paid for it

3) And nerves of steel if you have no idea what you are doing.

Buying a domain name to resell

The premise of reselling a domain for profit is buying the site for the name only. People in this area of buying and selling or banking on the fact that the domain name may pull a huge profit in the near future. They are not concerned about the site or it's content, just the name. Here people are looking at trends, and what the value of that trend will give them. Let's take an example: If for instance, you had a website called "blogger.com", you might have made a good profit. Get my meaning.

To conclude, as you can see, your domain name is important-not only to you, but maybe to someone else.

Why Buy a Domain Name?

By Steven Seferi

You have decided that it is time to put up a website or a blog for your business. Excellent decision. Now it's time to think about the domain name. You can elect to go with one of the many free hosting options available, but you cannot choose your own domain name if you go that route.

There are a number of very good reasons why you should buy a domain name for your website or blog. Having your own domain name will instantly give your site a more professional appearance, and more credibility.

Think of it like a postal address, it looks much more professional to see a physical address as opposed to a P.O. Box address. The same idea goes for your web address. You don't want to use an address that thousands of others are using that is identified by random numbers and letters.

Another reason to buy your own domain name is name recall. If you select a catchy domain name or one that relates well to your business, people will be able to remember your web address and visit more often.

A big benefit of owning your own domain is control. You will own the domain as long as you pay for it. You can move it to a new host if you want to. You can change the theme of it. You can change anything and everything about it. You control it.

If you are promoting affiliate products, it is highly recommended that you purchase your own domain name instead of strictly using the cookie cutter sites that some affiliate programs offer. Yes, they are usually free and the hosting is likely free or discounted. Remember, you get what you pay for.

Imagine that you have spent several months on a marketing campaign to drive traffic to that affiliate site. Sales are starting to come in and all is good. Then one day the affiliate program shuts down for one reason or another. The site is gone, the hosting is gone, and all your traffic driving work has become useless.

If you are wise and you have purchased your own domain name, and an affiliate program that you are promoting becomes obsolete or you just decide to promote something else, it is not a big deal.

You simply go in and change the content on your pages and link to a different affiliate product.

Your pages that you have worked to build traffic to are still intact. It is merely an inconvenience instead of a tragedy.

If you buy your own domain name, you will have a more professional looking email address. No more gmail or yahoo email addresses, unless that is what you want.

If you have any interest in creating a web presence that will be long term you need to purchase a domain name. Start building your online business in a manner that you consider permanent and long lasting. Using cookie cutter sites and free sites do not convey a feeling of commitment to yourself or to your site visitors. Commit to your business and to your success.

Do a little brainstorming, and learn how to buy a domain name.

The cost is minimal when compared to the lasting benefits it will bring. A domain name can give a solid base for building a successful online business.

Why Choosing a Niche in the Domain Trading Market Will Help You Sell the Domains You Own

By Shlomi Khutoretsky

While selling domains at the low level market prices are not a big deal, one can sell a domain in the domain name forums for couple of dollars. There is usually limitation for the number of sales he can do and the amount of money he can get in that specific level, because of the low ROI and the fact he needs to sell a lot of domains to buy a domain that will push him towards the high domain market.

Most of the successful domainers in the industry agree that choosing a niche and sticking with it, will help a domainer to succeed faster because of the benefits of having a niche.

Here are some of the benefits of having a niche in the domain name market:

Choosing a niche in the enormous domain trading market is one of the definite must. The reasons for that are that there are many domains in the market and without some kind of uniqueness, a new domain name trader have no real advantage above other domain traders in the industry.

When you are small it's hard to have any power to sell the domains you own, unless you have a niche. If you can build a niche then you have a point of differentiation from others, and you know better who are your potentials costumers and where they can be found.

I suggest investigating even more, trying to search for other domainers in the same or related niche. That way you can find out what is your competition in that niche and maybe you can create some kind of joint venture that will help you and your partners to achieve more success with your doubled effort.

With that concentration, you gain some power if you take the time to learn your market well and build a niche targeted domain portfolio. If you get enough in that one area of your choice, you can directly recruit advertisers, get special CPA deals, and build a common brand.

Do My Domain Name and Company Name Need to Be the Same?

By Rich Muir

Your domain name is an important aspect of your company website. A domain name is the address on the internet where your business can be found, so it is important to make your domain name suitable for your business.

In Internet parlance, a domain name is also known as a URL or Uniform Resource Locator. Typically, a domain name will look like this: http://www.yourcompanyname.com.au.

Getting a domain name means that you are eligible to commence business online. Having a website means that you are more accessible for your customers, which is important to boost your sales and reputation world wide. It is now becoming expected for businesses to have a domain name and a website.

It is a good idea to have at least a small website in your company name if only to guard its integrity. It's not enough to just obtain the domain name, as a challenger to the name can point to the fact that it not being used in an attempt to wrestle its ownership from you. Whether you register several other domain names, one for each area of your business, or for each of your 'brand' names, is optional, but recommended for the same reason. Grab the names before someone else does.

An important feature of owning a domain name that is the same, or as close as possible, to your company name is the ability to use that domain name as part of your company email address/addresses. This contributes greatly to the professional and business image of your company, projecting it in a credible light.

You should be careful with the choice of a company name (if choosing a new one) and its corresponding domain name. Over the years, legal disputes have arisen out of the use of domain names and company names that are identical to existing registered trademarks or company names.

What's more, names that could be the subject of an infringement action need not be ones that are locally registered here in Australia. Most world famous names and marks have international protection against intellectual property infringement that may be enforced against anyone in almost every country.

ASIC (Australian Securities and Investment Commission) recommends that your choice of a domain name is not identical, similar or confusingly similar to an existing business name, company name, reserved company name or registered trademark.

You can avoid legal conflict by conducting a domain name search on the Internet and a name search on an Australian domain registration website prior to reserving a company name for your business. If, after conducting a thorough search, the proposed name for your company is free for use, then go ahead and apply for it as your company name.

Should you have an existing business and find that its name has already been used by someone else for their website, it will be necessary to look for an alternative that either modifies the business name, or successfully interprets the nature of your business.

There are a number of providers on the Internet who offer domain name registration services for a fee. Sign up with any one of these providers and make sure that you renew your domain name registration regularly so as not to lose your rights over it. Once you register your domain name, no one else can hold or use the same Internet address simultaneously.

Registering the Perfect Domain Name

By Pat Turman

Registering a domain name is a simple task however there are a few items to look for in a domain name.

You have your business idea and you need to select a domain name. Your domain name is the "logo", the "advertisement" and more of your company. Just because your business is an internet business and not a "brick-and-mortar" it does not mean you can select any name as your domain name and people will come.

When selecting a domain name you can go to any domain name registrar online and search for domain names in your niche business idea. How do you do this?

Go to your favorite search engine and type in domain names. It should return a decent list of domain registration companies. Pick one and start your search. You do not have to purchase your domain name from the one you selected. You can do a search for cheap domain names and work with the list these search returns.

Domain name registration ranges from a couple of dollars to double-digit teens depending on whom you register with. Prior to registering your domain name I would read the features of this company. Some may have stipulations that you cannot transfer a domain name from their servers for 60 to 90 days. This is not good if you are not hosting your account with them. Make sure to read the terms.

How do I select a domain name that represents my business professionally? Good question. When selecting your domain name you want to use your keyword(s) or keyword phrase that you are using for your business idea.

I have written articles on how to accomplish this task. If you are unsure, read search for the articles or search on the internet to find the information.

If you have done the research let us say for example on the business idea of providing an informational product on "how to" create a needlepoint kit for those who needlepoint, then do a search for a domain name that is relevant to this business idea.

You want to use the word of your business idea and the keyword or keyword phrase that you used to research you business idea. If you used "needlepoint kit" then try a domain name search for needlepointkit.com. If that domain name is taken, try to add a word at the beginning or end of the word for example, createneedlepointkit.com. or needlepointkitguide.com.

Both possible domain names have your keyword or keyword phrase in the domain name.

This is good. You want to include your keyword or keyword phrase in your domain name for search engine optimization and to inform the internet visitor of what your website offers.

Yes, your domain name can be a form of advertising for you. The internet visitor who searches for needlepoint kits and arrives at your website should conclude based on your domain name that your site is about needlepoint kits not how to build a deck in ten days.

It is very important to try to register your business idea and keywords in the exact order that you have determined what your internet business will offer.

In addition, an important point to stress when searching for a domain names is to try to acquire a domain name with .com. com is the most widely used domains. Registering additional domains such as .net, .org, ect, can be done later.

If the domain that you want for you business is taken and you cannot find another suitable domain try separating your keywords by using a dash in between the words. This too is acceptable for search engines and it keeps your business idea and keywords in tact and in order.

Once you have found an acceptable domain name, go ahead and register it with whatever registrar you select. Word of caution though, if you are not hosting your website with that particular domain registrar you will have to transfer the domain to your web host. Check the terms to see if there is a waiting period before you can transfer or a cost to transfer. If there is, select another domain registrar.

You may want to register with your hosting company. It may cost you a little more to register your domain name with your hosting company but it may save you headaches in the end.

Another key point to stress, do not register a domain name prior to researching the profitability of your internet business. This is putting the cart before the horse and could cost you money in the end. You should always formulate a business idea, and research the market prior to establishing your domain name.

You have your domain name registered now you are set to start building your website to have a powerful presence on the internet.

Find Your Perfect Domain NOW - 3 Services That Will Speed Up Your Web Domain Name Search

By Nicolaas Theron

So, you're looking for that perfect domain name. There HAS to be an easier way to do it than typing domain names one after the other into a registrar's search box hoping to finally find something worthwhile, right?

Good news! You can make your web domain name search process a lot easier by using the right services online. Here are three services you can use to help you speed up the process of finding good available domain names.

Nameboy.com

Nameboy is a nifty domain name service. By simply typing a few keywords or phrases into Nameboy's search function, you can immediately get hundreds and hundreds of domain name suggestions. Built from your exact keywords, as well as synonyms and plurals, you'll have an exhaustive list of possible domain names to look at.

Not only that, but Nameboy will also show you which domain names and extensions are taken or available for each possible domain name it generates. If you're too lazy or don't have the time to brainstorm domain names yourself, Nameboy is the tool you want to use.

Domainsbot.com

Domainsbot is a little more rudimentary than Nameboy, but still quite useful for those who find Nameboy a little overwhelming. With this service you can just type your keyword phrase into the search box, and as you type Domainsbot will start checking to see which domains for your keyword phrase is still available. This information will be provided for you without you having to click any buttons.

I have found that their searchbox gets "stuck" after a few searches on numerous occasions, and while that's annoying it may be down to my internet connection or some other factors.

They also have a plugin for Firefox, so if you use that browser this may be a good option for you.

NameTumbler.com

Finally, if you want to generate absolutely huge lists of domain names, you can try Nametumbler. You simply provide a keyword, decide what sort of words you want to associate with that keyword, and almost instantly you have a big list of possible domain names. You are then directed to Godaddy's domain name availability tool to help you check the list you just created.

This is a little bit of a cumbersome process though, and you can only check one domain name extension at a time.

Personally, I like Nameboy's service the best for two reasons. You immediately get the availability of multiple domain extensions, plus you get some very useful domain name suggestions.

Now that you know how to complete your web domain name search in record time, head over to http://www.domainnamehowto.com for more great tips and information on domain names.

Turn Domains Into Dollars - 10 Hot Tips

By Max Tyson

Check out these recent 'colossal' domain name sale prices! Massive Profits are well and truly back in the news. (Truth be told, they've never really been out of it). With 'big' money at stake, it's no wonder the Domain Name Barron's prefer to keep an extremely low profile. Here are 10 Hot Tips to turn 'your' domains into dollars.

Tip 1. (More a 'revelation' than a tip). Did you know that there are now businesses specially set up to 'finance' those looking to buy domain names? Were you aware that there are multi-million dollar companies, whose sole activity is buying, selling, parking or leasing domain names? Why is this relevant? Well, these 'major players' are not in it for fun. They know (for sure) there's 'big bucks' to be made from domain names.

Tip 2. When it comes to turning domains into dollars, names ending in .com are still 'king'. The two word domain name DataRecovery.com went for a whopping $1,659,000.00 in the first half of 2008, whereas the one word Fund.com when for a simply staggering $9,999,950.00 in the same month / year. OK, your chances of getting hold of a good 'one word' domain are slim, but bear in mind that, as the price of such exclusive domains increase in value, a knock-on effect occurs. Down the road, sales of this magnitude can influence prices paid for good 'two-word' (and even 'three-word') domain names.

The best domain names are those consisting of generic terms / expressions (and 'keywords'). 'Anti Virus' is an example of a generic expression, as is 'Poker Tournament'.

Tip 3. Understand, it's not just dot com domain names that sell. There's money to be made from other Top Level Domains (TLD's) too. i.e. .net, .org, .info and .biz.

FilmSchool.net and WallStreet.info sold in 2008 for $49,501.00 and $25,500 respectively. If you had discovered either of those examples as an 'unregistered name', you would probably have been asked to pay no more than $10 to secure your prize!

Perhaps more appropriately, numerous sales in the $0000 and $000 price range occur every month.

If the .com version of a domain name is already registered, you must take care to avoid identical domain names (with different name extensions) where 'brand name' or 'trademark' infringement might be an issue.

However, if the dot com name is a pure generic name (e.g. Christmas Tree) then it may be safe to snap up one of the other TLDs or a Geo / Regional version of the same domain name as (to the best of my knowledge) it's still the case that obvious 'generic' terms cannot successfully be protected by trademark registration. (But don't rely on this, always investigate and take professional advice).

Tip 4. When it comes to domain names with 'country' or 'region' specific extensions, exciting 6 figure sales are occurring. Don't believe me? Well note that FreeCreditReport.co.uk sold in 2008 for a very healthy $300,000. (Wish I'd turned that domain into dollars).

Tip 5. Domain Names don't have to be short and memorable to warrant a fantastic 6 digit purchase price. Demand is steadily increasing for sensible names, comprised of one or more words that clearly describe a marketable product or service. Why? Every year the number of businesses goings online increases dramatically. (Work it out for yourself).

Tip 6. Don't for one moment think that 'flipping' (i.e. buying in the hope of immediately reselling) is the only way to turn your domains into dollars. If you acquire several domain names, you should investigate developing some into websites that you can then sell, along with the domain name. Doing this can add a lot of value to the domain. It also gives you more opportunities to make a sale, as you can look to attract not only those looking for a good domain name, but also folk simply seeking a website with a decent name.

Even if you know nothing about website development, you can get a freelance to build one for you quite cheaply. Web Developers frequently advertise their services through elance.com, guru.com (or a whole range of other Outsourcing Websites).

Many domain names are suitable for 'Free Parking' via services willing to share revenue generated by visitor traffic. Simply type 'Domain Parking' into your favourite search engine, then compare offers. Such services effectively host your domain name for free, and can make your domain look more appealing to a prospective buyer.

If a Free Parking Service makes you just $5 each year over and above the annual cost to register your domain name, you're ahead of the game. OK, $5 a year is not much (unless, that is, you've got 100, 1000, or 10,000 domains that are all earning you a $5 profit annually). Do the math! Decent domain names will increase in value overtime so, by parking names to cover their renewal costs, you can afford to sit back and wait for a decent offer. (Win, Win!)

Tip 7. While there are no 'absolute' rules, consider carefully before you buy an 'already registered' domain name that contains a hyphen, a numeral, or both. In some instances, you can come out on top, but in most cases you'll be wasting your money. Also, beware of those offering domains that appear to be really great one or two word names until - that is - you realize that the person who registered the name (not necessarily the seller) has used the number '0' (zero) rather than the letter 'o' as part of a word. There are other text variations that can create a misleading impression. (So be careful!).

Tip 8. We've touched on this point earlier, but it's very important you avoid names that have been trademarked or - through passage of time - come to be recognised as 'known brands'. Just because a dot com name is available, don't jump to the conclusion that the fantastic name you've identified is a safe bet.

OK, you may well decide that - for the risk of just a few dollars - you'll register it while you can, and investigate later. (That's probably what I'd do!). But subsequently, always remember to do your 'due diligence' before using such a name, or offering it to someone else.

Bear in mind that some business may (for whatever reasons) chose to go with the .net, .org or some other extension. In many cases where this applies, those businesses will have taken the sensible precaution of purchasing the .com version too. But not always!

So, irrespective of the extension of any domain name you might be thinking of buying (e.g. .com, .net, .org, .us etc) check to see if anyone has registered / is using the same domain with an alternative extension.

Also bear in mind that there are still some businesses without an internet presence, who may be using that fantastic name you came up with 'off-line'. Where this applies, they may well have Trademark or similar rights over it.

You can also get your fingers badly burn if you register a deliberate misspelling or 'sound-a-like' of a famous brand name. My advice? Don't bother (or check with your lawyer first!)

Tip 9. When it comes to using 'brand creation' as means of converting domains into dollars, some businesses deliberately choose (or dream up) domain names with a vague / nebulous quality. This means that, later, they have the option to change what their business does, or move into additional fields, without having to alter their name.

For example, although we all associate Amazon or eBay with what we currently known them for, there's a chance that - in fifty years time - they could have morphed into new enterprises (which may have nothing to do with the activities we associate them with right now).

You might sometimes be offered, or dream up, domain name ideas that don't describe or indicate a specific business or interest area. Such names can be valuable if you can locate someone with cash, who agrees with you. However, more often than not, they will prove very hard to sell, compared to those that give a clear indication of what an internet user might reasonably expect if he / she decides to visit a website with that name.

Tip 10. In this article it's only been possible to uncover the tip of the iceberg as far as domain name 'buying & selling tactics' are concerned. Tip 10 is to realize that, in order to buy and sell domains like a 'pro', you need to get serious about increasing your knowledge, and start planning your strategy. Invest some time and energy in learning all you can from 'experts' to give yourself that essential 'edge'. Then formulate a campaign to turn those domains into dollars.

Six Important Parameters of a Good Expired Domain Name

By John Khu

At time, expired domain trading business is a business concept that is riddled with uncertainties and confusions. While some of them may fetch millions of dollars to their owners, others may yield next to nothing. Expired domain trading could also be a make or break business for someone who is careless and hasty; more often, people who take calculated risks tend to succeed in the business when compared to others who are reckless and unskilled. Choosing a good expired domain name is the important key to your entrepreneurial success. On other hand, mastering the techniques of choosing an excellent expired domain name is a mandatory necessity to achieve success in the business.

If you are currently in this business and looking to succeed, then you will just have to read, understand and master the following rules and conditions so as to empower yourself towards the path of success. There are a number of ways to buy an expired domain but with careful planning and well calibrated strategy, you can easily gain immensely with a number of premium domains. Here are some of these key issues and parameters highlighted for your consideration:

Keyword volume: Every successful domains expiring will have its bearing on a niche keyword and keyword research is one of the most important step for finding a good domain expiring soon. Popular and niche keywords get lot of traffic and inbound links which are necessary for the success of your expired domains trading business. Before buying a particular expired domain, ensure that you are conducting a detailed keyword research on popular and well-known sites like Google Adwords and WordTracker. You can use a good keyword search tool to narrow down on those expired domains that provide lot of gains.

Common Factors: If you observe all those famous domain names carefully, you will understand that all of them have one thing in common- they are always very easy to remember and easy to recall. Just consider famous web portals like Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Half, eBay, Diamonds, Flowers and Cars. These names are very easy to remember and you can easily type them on the address bar of your web browser.

Organic Type-in Traffic: Expired domain gains will become a big reality when you choose and buy domains that come with pre-packed type-in traffic. Almost all newbie expired domain traders tend to rush out to buy an expired domain that id devoid of any meaningful traffic.

Length of the expired domain: Short domains expiring are the most obvious choice for you business because of their simple nature. Short expired domains are known to yield better traffic and links when compared to domains that are longer and complex.

Previous commercial history: As far as possible, try to buy domains expiring that were commercial in nature; e commerce and selling portals are easy to flip and convert into viable new web portals because of their perceived traffic and inbound links.

Development potential: Let the domain names-expiring you are planning to buy be flexible enough for future development and flipping. Flipping is an art of converting good expired domains into a viable and paying web portal.

Turning your expired domains into potential money spinning tools is an advanced art possible only when you learn the basics of expired domains.

Five Myths About Choosing a Good Domain Name

By Jason D Dutch

Choosing a good domain name can make the difference between online success or failure. The domain name of an online business is like the location for an offline business. And let's be honest, would a shop in a stuck away in an alley attract the same number of visitors as a shop in a busy main street?

Ok, now have that we have that figured out, lets see why it seems so hard to pick a catchy and appealing domain name.

Myth #1: all good domain names are taken. Right?

Wrong. It is a fact that many of the best domain names are taken, but that doesn't mean there aren't any good names available any more. As a matter of fact - there are lots of great domain names available.

Myth #2: a good domain name tells exactly what the business is all about. Right?

Wrong again. What is a Google? What does an Amazon have to with shopping? Skype? What the heck is a skype...?

Myth #3: a good domain name is just a few letters long. Right?

Well, close but not necessarily. It's obvious that a 3 letter domain name is cool, easy to remember and... extremely expensive. Think tens of thousands of dollars. If you can afford it, go for it. If you can't, don't let it stop you from making money online. I know lots of people that are making a killing online with 10, 20 or even 30 letter domain names. It didn't stop them. It didn't stop me. It shouldn't stop you.

Myth #4: a dot-info, dot-biz or a dot-whatever extension is as good as a dot-com.

No. it is not. Well, okay, a dot-info is as good as a dot-com if you don't mind if that the search engines completely ignore your website. But if you are serious about this, a dot-com is the only way to go.

Myth #5: picking a good domain name is like choosing a name for your first born.

Rubbish my friend. It is harder! You can name your child whatever you want (whether he/she loves your taste of names is another story) while the number of names that will suit your website and business is limited.

Let's rap it all up.

Spend some time picking a good domain name and choose one with a keyword in it. But don't go overboard. You are better off building your online business then spending weeks researching domain names.

Real Estate Niche Keyword Domain Names Are Very Important to Your Business

By Dennis Graves

Are you starting a website for the Real Estate or Realty niche? Are you starting a website for your Real Estate or Realty business? Either way, you need a keyword rich real estate domain name if you want to get rankings in search engines. Having a keyword rich real estate domain name will also help you market your business easier. People are more likely to remember your domain name if it's something like WorldsBestRealty.com instead of Bobs-Real-Estate.com. You need a domain name without numbers and without dashes, people won't remember them. Your real estate domain name has to be something they will remember. It also looks more professional if you have a real estate domain name.

Having keywords in your domain name is also important for your search engine rankings. Search Engine Optimization companies agree that the domain name is one of the most important parts of your website. You also have an increased chance of getting type in traffic. Type in traffic is when someone just types in keywords into their browser address bar and see what happens. Some of the newer address bars will take the surfer to a website that has the keywords they typed in. Having the words Real Estate or Realty in your domain name will greatly increase your chance of the browser taking the surfer to your site.

If you plan on advertising your real estate niche website or business in Google AdWords, having a keyword rich domain name will help you there also. It shows Google that your website is about Real Estate. Part of the "equation" that Google uses when trying to figure how much to charge you per click, and where to rank your ad, is your Google AdWords Quality Score. The higher your Quality Score, the more Google thinks your site will help the searchers, so the less they will charge you. Although Google keeps a very tight lip on how they figure out the Quality Score, having the words Real Estate or Realty in your domain name should help.

By Cillian Baillie

Acquiring an available domain name is the first step to getting your website up and running. However, finding currently available domain names can be a time-consuming process. Luckily with thorough research and determination, you can find great available domain names for your site.

There are numerous sites on the web offering available domain names. Remember that the best domain names are those that are easy to remember, as most visitors will not remember a long or convoluted name. You want to choose a name that will stick in the visitor's mind and that will reflect the website topic or content you are offering.

First it is best if you can determine what the theme of your website should be. Whether your site is for business or personal use is very important in how much time and money you might like to spend finding an available domain name. Also, finding that perfect name that will accurately reflect your site and will draw visitors to it is fundamental in the success of your site.

They will offer a form that you will need to fill out to start your search for available domain names for your site. If the name you are looking for is already in use, the provider may offer suggestions that you can consider.

An alternative to the above method of finding a domain name that are available is to look for domain names that have or are ready to expire. This can be good in that you may find a domain name that is ideal for you business/niche and it could possibly already have back links and traffic. This as you can imagine is a great cost and time saver as it will cut down the time on getting visitors to your new site.

Keep in mind that it is very important that you choose the correct name for your site. Finding that perfect available domain name for your business or personal site will be the single first step in securing that your site will be well trafficked and successful. Make sure to take the time and choose wisely.

Smarter Domain Purchases - 5 Tips For Making a Smart Domain Purchase For Your Online Business

By Cindy McKie

A smart domain purchase for your new online business is much more important than many people may think. The right domain name can boost search engine placement and brand an entire business. Alternately choosing the wrong domain name can hurt your business from the start. Here are the top five tips for choosing a winning domain name for your online business.

1. Choose a keyword based domain name when entering competitive niches. Look for a two or three word phrase relating to your niche. This phrase should receive more than 500 searches per month and have less than 200,000 competing sites in Google when searching that phrase in quotation marks. Making a domain purchase using such a keyword phrase will help your website or blog rank better for that particular phrase.

2. Avoid hyphens whenever possible. While it was believed that using hyphens to separate words within a domain name helped with search engine optimization it is now generally frowned upon. It is recommended to avoid hyphens as they tend to make your domain name, and your business, appear spammy and unprofessional. If you must use a hyphen keep it to one instance only between a two word phrase.

3. Choose the right domain extension. When making a domain purchase you should always try and secure a .com extension if possible. Since superior .com extensions are not always available your next choice should be a .net extension. In instances where neither is available then you can choose a .org extension if you really must have that particular domain name. Avoid .info, .biz and other extensions.

4. Choose a short and memorable domain name if you have the marketing to brand it. While ranking well for your niche is easier with longer, keyword based domain names those domain names don't often stick in the minds of potential customers quite as well as a short and unique domain name does. Businesses such as eBay and Twitter are good examples of business who dominate their markets with odd one word domain names. Just be sure you have a good marketing strategy in order to make your domain name synonymous with what your business is about.

5. Buy aged domain names. Unlike registering a brand new domain name purchasing an expired domain name that has already been used for an online business can give your new business an instant boost of success. Backlinks and PageRank associated with that domain name will be instantly passed on to your business and help bring in early traffic while you get your business up and running.

Whether you choose a longer keyword based domain name or a shorter, memorable one depends on the needs of your new business. Taking advantage of the benefits of aged domain names is always a step in the right direction to early success which your new business can grow on. When making a domain purchase be clear on what your business needs and choose wisely. Your business' success is riding on it.

10 Domain Name Tips That Can Make You Money Online

By Dr. Kang-pang Chan

When it comes to selecting the right sort of domain name for your business there are certain things which one needs to take into consideration first. If you are looking to be able to make money online with your domain name then you need something that will clearly distinguish you from your competitors. In this article we offer 10 domain name tips that can make you money online as you will have been able to select the one that is right for you.

Tip 1 - Along with choosing a keyword rich domain name it also has to be one that clearly reflects the service or product you are selling. For example if you are going to be offering detailed maps of Europe then a name such a euromaps.com should be used. Or if for example you are selling unusual cheeses then a name like weirdcheese.com is ideal.

Tip 2 - If you can by domain names that are either existing or which have expired. When it comes to getting ranked high in Google the older the domain the much higher they generally get ranked. When looking for a domain name select ones that are at least a year old. In order to check the domain including whether the page rank has been forged use something checkpageranking.com to do so.

Tip 3 - It is important that you choose a top level domain name (TLD). So ideally look for those that end in .com, .net, .info or .org. However, if you are trying to get domain names for a specific country say the UK then aim for those that end in .co.uk.

Tip 4 - Before you buy any TLD's you need to ensure that they are currently available. There are plenty of online services that can assist you with this but they do charge a fee. However the fee is nominal and is worth paying if you don't want to be faced with any problems concerning it in the future.

Tip 5 - When you do get round to purchasing your domain names go for a extended period of say around 10 years. Just as with the older domain names ones purchased for an extended period tend to rank higher in the pages of search engines like Google than those that have been brought for say a year.

Tip 6 - The domain names you select should be ones that are short and which visitors to your site will remember easily. These types of domain names will help to get visitors to your site returning time after time.

Tip 7 - It is far better to go for those domain names which have no hyphens within them. However, if you are having problems finding ones that are suitable then limit the number of hyphens in it. Preferably you should only have around 1 hyphen as any more than this and you may find your site being penalized because it looks spammy.

Tip 8 - It is best if you don't go for domain names that relate to a certain brand or trademark as you will then have to compete with plenty of others to attract visitors to your site. So not only are you reducing the chances of getting the visitors you need to your but also reducing the chances of you making money from it.

Tip 9 - All domain names should have either numbers, letters or hyphens in them and never any spaces. As with too many hyphens spaces in domain names will cause the search engines like Google to penalize it.

Tip 10 - When purchasing and parking domain names make sure that you use the same registrar. Not only does it make it easier for you to update your contact details but also when it comes to renewing them. Once you have found a registrar you can trust ensure that you do keep all contact information updated especially your email address. Otherwise when it comes to being informed of the domains renewal you won't be given the information.

Above we have shown you 10 domain name tips that can make you money online. 3 Critical Questions to Ask When Choosing Your Domain Name

By Christopher M. Hall

In a perfect world, you would be able to get the domain name you want. Problem is, this is not a perfect world and chances of you getting the domain name that you want might be small. I have personally spent hours typing .com URLs into my favorite domain registration service just to find each name I type is already taken. Let me answer three questions that many people have when choosing a domain name.

1. What if I can't get the .com extension? - Personally, I would choose a different domain name rather than have any other extension besides .com. Why? Because that is how I was "raised". Kind of like the granddad saying he doesn't understand why we have all the fancy iPods, DVDs, and cell phones. I was around when most .com URLs were still available, so I still try to use the .com. And still today, .com is the default extension people try if they don't specifically remember another extension. But, as more .coms are taken, people will get used to typing other extensions like .net, .org, and .biz.

2. Should I use hyphens if I can't get the domain name I want? - I personally would not use hyphens in my domain name. They are hard to type, difficult to remember, and must be explicitly included when verbally mentioning the website. The other day I was on a conference call with someone promoting a website that was incredibly long and had four hyphens in the name. The person was giving out the website name on the call, and for some reason, people had a hard time getting to the webpage. People were saying that the website was down, they could not find the page, etc. Well, the real problem was the website name was too long and had too many hyphens. If you do use hyphens, just use one. If you have to use more than one, get another name! You will thank me in the future!

3. Should my domain name contain specific keywords? - Some people are adamant that your domain name must contain keywords that you want to rank high for. For example, for internet marketing, you might want words such as internet and marketing in the domain name. I think it is good to have keywords in your domain name, but not at the expense of common sense. Plus, some of the most popular websites today do not have keywords in their name (i.e. google, yahoo, craigslist). If you can get keywords, then use them. If it makes the name awkward, try something else.

3 Things You Need to Know Before You Buy Your First Domain Name

By Tellman Knudson

There are many reasons to start an internet business. Maybe you are looking for a primary income source, or need to supplement an existing income or retirement pension. Or, maybe, you just want to become pithily rich! No matter the reason, every internet business starts at the same point; buying a domain name. And, every beginner buying a domain name has very similar questions. Keep reading to learn the answers to the top 3 asked questions from new internet business owners.

1. What is a domain name and why do I need it?

A domain name is address of your website. It is very similar to a house address. Picture the internet to be the world and your domain name is your physical home address. This address enables people to find you and without this, no one would be able to find your website.

To get a domain name, you need to go to a registrar, who is the "middleman" of domain purchasing. By purchasing a domain name from a registrar, this allows you to use this website and domain name as you wish. When choosing a domain name for your internet business, you should pick one that reflects or represents your website. It is also important to choose a domain name that is easy to remember, easy to spell so that it is easy for people to remember.

2. When buying a .com domain name for my internet business, should I also buy the .biz, .org, .us and other versions?

Generally, no. It is a very rare situation that you would need to buy all the versions of a domain name. If you have an unlimited budget, buy all of them. You can redirect the other ones to you main .com domain just in case someone types in .org or .net by mistake. However, someone making that mistake does not happen too often. Most of the time, if someone is just tying a domain name, they are going to type it in as a .com, so normally, it is fine just to buy the .com version.

3. Is it beneficial to have a similar domain name to someone else's domain name?

Unless you are trying to have something like Amazonbooks.com to inadvertently grab traffic from a popular site that is ridiculously huge then 99% of the time having a similar domain name won't matter. The reason it won't matter is because there are millions and millions of websites out there.

The way you are going to get visitors will be by a variety of traffic strategies. You may end up using paid advertising, blogging, article marketing or you might end up doing a Joint Venture. In all cases, your direct domain name is going to be emailed to your list. They will be clicking a redirect link to get to your website and not typing it into a web browser.

Purchasing a domain name is the first step to starting an internet business and allows people to find your website.
