Best Domain Names - 4 Thought-Provoking Considerations When Conceptualizing Domain Names

By Sean R Mize

Do you have a great memory? Can you glance at names or numbers in an offhand way and have no difficulty remembering them later on? If so, then you may have an inclination towards memory that is photographic! But a lot of people are not as gifted as you - they have difficulty remembering dates, anniversaries, names of acquaintances, etc. if they already have difficulty in remember things like these, what more with domain names? If you own a business, you ought to know how important domain names are to the success of your enterprise. Any boring or standard domain names might come off sounding as too general and runs the risk of being forgotten by a lot of people. So it is important to know the right combination of words and terms that will really stick to the minds of your clients so they will have an easier time going back to your site. Here are four very thought-provoking considerations that will guide you towards creating the best domain name for your business.

1. Your domain name should of course be related to your work. It should include a term which anyone can connect to your product or service. For example, if you sell car parts, you can include the word 'auto' to your domain name because for a lot of people hearing the word 'auto' will make them visualize a collection of parts that are needed to make a car run.

2. The domain name of your business should not mirror any other existing businesses' domain name in order to avoid confusion (at best) or accidentally redirecting someone else to your competitor (a nightmare!). If there is a registered domain name that is entitled carautoparts.com, for example, then you should best steer clear of using or jumbling up the same three words for your business because the clients might not remember yours and instead come up with the competitor's name.

3. Avoid domain names wherein a good number of vowels end up next to each other when typed as one word. Not everyone is a spelling sleuth, so the 'eee' and the 'ooo' vowel bunches should be avoided. You should use different terms that end in different letters.

4. And finally, try to add adjectives to your domain name. The right combination of adjectives will attract readers and will most likely cause them to remember your site and your business.
