In these tough economic times, you've got to keep sharp and on the ball to get the fast cash.
Listen to the market
The quickest way to lose your money as a domainer is to buy names that you THINK are good. It doesn't matter what you THINK is good. It's what the market tells you is good that you should be focusing on.
Successful domainers who make fast cash are focused on the market.
Some domains you come across might appear terrible, ridiculous!! Yet, if you have done your research and the market shows that people want these types of name then who are you & I to second guess the market? You've got to buy the names that are in demand and provide them for sale.
KEY RULE 1: Stick to your method. Don't think about domains that YOU like. Think about what the market tells you people are looking for. What's the demand?
Buying your domains
What to look for:
.com
The most desirable domain name still is one that ends with dot com. While there are always exceptions to the rule, my advice would be to focus on dot com extensions.
SHORT NAMES
The shorter the name, the better. There is a premium attached to a short domain name. Imagine your buyer as someone who is creating a website. Their goal is to make it as easy as possible for visitors to their site to get there. So typing in a short, memorable and pronounceable domain is always preferable.
2 letter .com names- only 676 combinations
3 letter .com names- only 17,576 combinations
4 letter .com names- only 456,976 combinations
Five letter domains are much more accessible. There are over 11 million of these available.Buyers love these if they are brandable. Think 'Yahoo'.
What to avoid:
Trademark domain names.
Keep away from these. Most companies are very protective of their trademark and will actively pursue legal action for damages against people 'Hopping' onto their trademark. It's just not worth it.
Celebrity based domains.
What might appear popular today may not be so popular in a few weeks. Also, celebrities are equally protective of their names and will likely sue. Keep away from these names too.
