New Online Trend - Buying Kids Their Own Domain Name is the Latest Rage

By Jason Matthew Murphy

A new trend has emerged online and it is purchasing a Domain name for Babies. Why buy a Domain name for Baby you might ask? Parents today are purchasing a Domain name for there kids and family to post photos, family milestones, events and more.

It has been estimated that more than 90,000 Domain names are purchased each day, a fair amount of them for personal use.

The trend rides the tail of the new motto of branding, "brand-yourself" is the message many marketing Gurus are sending these days. With so many people learning new technology and leveraging the Internet to make life more virtual, having a personal Web site makes sense.

You might be surprised too, chances are if your name is popular it has already been taken. I had to insert my middle name to buy my name as a Domain, my first and last name were already registered. I ended up with a combination of my first, middle and last name which is still decent.

Here are a few fun things that you can do with a personalized domain name:

* Personalized email address: you@you.com. You'll be able to drop the weird Hotmail and Yahoo! extensions, and get a safe, secure email address helping you avoid harmful SPAM and hacking attempts.

* Share photos with family and friends. Most places will throw in a Web design kit when you purchase a Domain name. Use this to launch a Web site and upload photos.

* Post your resume. It's pretty savvy to make your resume available this way.

* Make money. Who knows, with time and a decent Web site you might be able to make money as an affiliate marketer or Blogger. Could pay for college.

Purchasing a domain name for yourself or Baby is a smart move and an affordable investment. Most domain name registrars will charge between $10.00 and $20.00 to register a domain name. This is an annual fee and is pretty cheap considering it's less than 3 pennies a day when you break it down.

Plus you're kids will think you're cool too.
